Mas cotek (Ficus deltoidea) a possible supplement for type II diabetes: (a pilot study).

The aim of this research was to study the effect of Ficus deltoidea Jack (mas cotek) leaves on, fasting blood sugar, renal and lipid profile of Type 2 diabetic patients. This study was carried out at Polyclinic Balok Kuantan, Pahang. Twenty patients participated and they were divided into two groups of ten each. Inclusion criteria were registered as diabetic patient diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus for more than a year, at age of 18 years and above, HbA1c level higher than 6.5% and had contactable telephone number. Intervention group had been given orally 350 mg of Ficus deltoidea twice daily and monitored every 20 days for two months. Results indicated that there was no significant different in fasting blood sugar, HbA1C, renal and lipid profiles between the two groups. Intervention group felt more energetic and fresh compared to control.
