Lipoxygenase inhibitors from Fernandoa adenophylla (Wall.ex.g.don) Steen
2001
Rasadah Mat Ali | Houghton, P.J.
Two types of in vitro screening methods, i.e. inhibition of soybean 5-lipoxygenase and inhibition of TXB2 and LTB4 production from arachidonate have been used to indicate possible in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of Fernandoa adenophylla. It was found that the root and stembark of F. adenophylla showed significant inhibitory activity against 5-soya lipoxygenase. Root of F. adenophylla showed strong inhibitory acivity against soybean lipoxygenase and LTB4 production. The most active compound from F. adenophylla (root) was the naphthoquinone lapachol while the flavonoids pinocembrin and chrysin showed appreciable anti-inflammatory activity.
