Policy analysis peatland management and conservation: a case study for the Klias Peninsula
2005
Rahim Sulaiman
The major aim of this study was to put up recommendations to be used as input in the management and conservation of Peat Swamp Forest (PSF) and associated wetlands in the Klias Peninsula. The rapid land development in the Klias Peninsula over the last decade had impacted all of the forest reserves (FRs) in the Klias Peninsula. The isolation of Klias FR from both the Nabahan FR and Hindian FR and the risks of its habitat destruction are already a reality with the alienation of surrounding lands and the associated impacts due to land development activities. In view of the gravity of the various threats to the sustainability of the FRs habitat existence, proper planning and management of the various FRs in the Klias Peninsula including the Klias FR as well as the surrounding areas should be strategic direction to be pursued.
