Performance of lowland hybrid rice at different levels of Bio-N and inorganic nitrogen fertilizer

The study was conducted in DA-NOMIARC, Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon to assess the effects of Bio-N and inorganic nitrogen levels of application on the agronomic and yield performance of hybrid rice (Mestizo 7). This study was arrangeed in a 3 x 4 split-plot, RCBD with 12 treatment combinations in three replications. Main plots were nitrogen levels (No-0, N1-60 kg/ha, N2-120 kg/ha) and subplots were Bio-N levels (Bo-0, B1-600-, B2-1200-, B3-1800/g/ha Bio-N) (107 cfu/g) with blank application of 30 kg/ha P2O5 and 30 kg/hg K20. Hybrid rice applied with 120 kg N/ha had the most number of vegetative tiller, productive tillers and highest grain yield. Longest panicle length was obtained when applied with 1,200 kg/ha Bio-N. Number of filled spikelets, percentage filled spikelets, panicle weight, and 1000-seed weight were significantly influenced by the interaction effect of inorganic nitrogen fertilizer and Bio-N. Application of 120-30-30 kg NPK/ha alone, 1,200 g/ha Bio -N (107 cfu/g) alone and the combination of inorganic fertilizer 60-30-30 kg/ha + 1,200 g/ha Bio-N (107 cfu/g) give better agronomic and yield of hybrid rice compared to other treatments. Highest economic benefits of P46,974.00 and return on operating capital (ROC) of 123.70% were obtained from plants applied with 120-30-30 kg NPK/ha alone. A comparable economic benefits were obtained from plants applied with 1,200 g/ha Bio-N (107 cfu/g) alone and 60-30 kg NPK/ha + 1200 g/ha Bio -N (107 cfu/g). The effect of Mestizo 7 when applied with either 1,200 g/ha Bio -N (107 cfu/g) (NoB2) or combined application of 60 kg N/ha + 1,200 g/ha Bio-N (107 cfu/g) or 120 kg N/ha produced highest economic benefits however, further study is recommended to validate this result.
