A study was conducted to determine the insect pest incidence of rice (Masuwerte) as affected by six planting distances: 10 cm x 10 cm; 10 cm x 15 cm; 10 cm x 20 cm; 15 cm x 15 cm; 15 cm x 20 cm and 20 cm x 20 cm during the wet season planting. The study arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications was established at the experimental area of the College of Agriculture, Isabela State University, Echague, Isabela [Philippines]. Collection of insects was done through sweep method late in the afternoon. Results of the study showed that incidence of insect pest particularly the sucking and predators were observed to be significantly higher during the vegetative and booting stages but not during the flowering stage. The number of chewing and sucking insects including the predators did not vary from plants spaced at different distances. Spacing has no significant effect on plant height from 30 and 60 days but the differences on number of productive tillers, panicle length, number of filled spikelet, and yield among the treatments were attributed on the planting distances. Better growth and yield performances were observed on rice spaced 10 cm x 10 cm, 10 cm x 15 cm, 15 cm x 20 cm, and 20 cm x 20 cm. Correlation analysis showed that the number of chewing insects and predators were positively correlated with planting distance during the vegetative stage but weak correlation exhibited during the booting and flowering stages of the crop. Planting distance had no correlation on the height of the plants, number of productive tillers, unfilled spikelet, grain weight per hill and weight of 1000 seeds. Strong positive correlation attributed to planting distances existed on the number of filled spikelets, length of panicle and grain yield per sampling area.
