Pasicolan, H.R. | Ramos, J.S., Philippine Rice Research Inst., Isabela Station, Isabela (Philippines)
Knowing the disease occurrence in certain area provides information of the probable outbreaks or increases in intensity of disease. An ocular assessment in maximum tillering and before harvest was conducted from 2010 WS [wet season] to 2011 DS [dry season] in rice-growing areas in Northeast Luzon (NEL), to develop a rice disease map of NEL for variety development and disease management strategies. Results showed that bacterial leaf streak (BLS) was prevalent in hybrid varieties during the 2010 WS and 2011 DS in Isabela and Cagayan. Asynchronous planting in the towns of Cabagan, Isabela; Bunguey, Cagayan; Bambang Nueva Vizcaya; and Lagawe and Lamut, Ifugao led to the occurrence of rice tungro virus. High incidence of neck rot was observed in Saguday and Diffun, Quirino; Solano, Nueva Vizcaya; Echague and Delfin Albano, Isabela; Solana and Allacapan, Cagayan; and Lamut, Ifugao during 2011 DS. Farmers' selection lines in Cabarroguis, Quirino; and Allacapan and Buguey, Cagayan were severely infected with bacterial leaf blight (BLB).
