Hybrid rice commercial production is one of the approaches to meet the goal of food sufficiency program of the Department of Agriculture. NSIC Rc244H (Mestiso 29) is a newly released PhilRice three-line hybrid that has a maximum yield of 11.2 t/ha. The cultivation of this hybrid could contribute in attaining the goal because it performs both in the dry and wet season. However, the commercialization of this variety will depend mainly on the availability of F1 seeds. In this study, the authors aim to determine the seed setting and yield and to develop efficient and economical hybrid seed production. The authors planted AxR seed production to 5000 square meter during the 2012 WS [wet season], a yield of 1050 kg/ha were harvested, production cost was P45,000/ha, morpho-agronomic characters of the parental such as 50% heading, number of tillers, panicles and grain production were gathered. ROI [return on investment] on a per hectare basis was also computed. Important factors to address in the future to attain high seed-setting and yield were observed such as seeding interval for flowering synchronization (DS [dry season] and WS). Application of proper amount of GA3 and other techniques. The experiences learned from the AxR seed production specially the application of major practices will provide information or serve as reference to seed producers.
