2013
Hussein,Z.
The search aimed to study the effects of organic fertilizer and container size on the growth and quality of Solanaceae seedling such as tomato (Shannon and Cortuba varieties), pepper (Snapper and Lopez varieties) and eggplant (Abnose variety). The study was carried out in Abu Garash field of Agriculture faculty in Damascus University in the season of 2010-2011. The organic fertilizer"Naturaminplus" was used. Concerning the sizes containers speeding trays (5*5cm) and plastic pots (10*10cm) were used. The results showed that the primary and maximum germination percentage varied according to the hybrid and container size. Concerning to the effect of organic fertilizer treatment, the effect was significant in the leaf area of tomato hybrids. In pepper, the significant effect appeared in seedling length of only Lopez; it was higher 73% than control (10.33cm). In eggplant, the length was increased significantly by organic fertilizer treatment. According to the container size, it was clear that the effect was significant in leaves number, leaves area and seedlings length in the pots as compared to speeding trays in all of hybrids tomato and pepper. While in the eggplant, the container size affected significantly the number of leaves, leaves area. The organic fertilizer treatment affected significantly the flowers number, onset fruits and onset percentage, in all of tomato, pepper and eggplant. For example, significant increase, in flowers number, of about (64% and 79% ) compared to control (5.04 and 4.5 flower/ truss) in Shannon and cortuba, respectively, and about 73% and 66% compared to control (14.33 and 16.17 flower) in hybrids of snapper and lopez, respectively, and about (1.3 times) compared to control (18.67 flower) in eggplant. While the effect of container size, was not significant in the last parameters, for all varieties.
