Urea fertilizer is one of the most important sources of nitrogen for tea plantation in Iran. The rate and split application of urea is important both economically and environmentally. In this research, a field factorial experiment was carried out with 9 treatments and a control plot with no nitrogen. The factors were, factor A : 600, 800 & 1000 Kg-ha of urea and factor B: split application; 2, 4 & 6 split in each year. These treatments and control plot were done in four replication for three years in Feshalam research station of tea research institute of Iran. Tea green leaf yield and quality parameter like; tannin, water extract, Total ash, dray matter and leaf N content were determined in each spring, summer and fall. The results showed that although the yield was significantly increased in compare to the control plot, there were not any significant difference between 600, 800 and 1000 Kg urea/ha of urea. Also, using the split application did not have any effect on yield. But applying urea with the range of 0- 1000 kg/ha, caused a slight and insignificant decreasing in tannin and water extract. However, split application caused adjustment in the mentioned reducing process of tannin and water extract of tea leaves. Overall, considering economical and environmental points, the amount of 600 Kg urea/ha in 4 split application is recommended. Key words: Tea , Nitrogen fertilizer , Urea , Split application
