To find the effects of calcium carbonate on the water relationships of calcareous soils in Siakh area, located to the west of Shiraz, 30 surface soil samples were collected along a 6 Km inclined transect from the highest to the lowest elevations of a piedmont plain. Samples were analyzed for texture, calcium carbonate equivalent (CCE), pH, EC and carbonate clay (c-clay). Soil moisture characteristic curves for the undisturbed samples were also determined at 0.33, 1, 2, 5, 10 and 15 bar pressure, using pressure plate and pressure membrane apparatus. Regression equations were developed between soil moisture content a and soil mineral fractions. They were not significant except for the clay + silt content which was significant at the 1% level (R2 = 0.32, F= 13.02). The most effective content range of calcium carbonate on the water relations of the samples was 10-20%.
