Faunistic study of planthoppers of region 7 of agricultural division (Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgromorpha).

The group Fulgoromorpha or Superfamily Fulgoroidea comprises a quite great assemblage of diverse and taxonomically interesting sucking insects commonly known as planthoppers. At present, some 12,000 described species belonging to 20 families of planthoppers are known from different parts of the world. Many species of planthoppers are famous as important agricultural crop pests or transmitting plant pathogenic viruses or phytoplasmas. The loss due to these insects is not only because of removing and wasting great amounts of plant sap from plant vascular tissues through their feeding, but also acting as vectors of plant pathogens. In this 2.5 year research project aiming taxonomic study of Fulgoromorpha in region 7 of faunestic divisions of Iran, provinces Fars,Chahar mahal va Bakhtiari and Kohkiluyeh-Boirahmad were surveyed for collection and identification of planthopper species. Investigations showed representatives of at least 9 families of planthoppers in the regions listed below, those species marked with an asterisk* are recorded for the first time: 1.
