Weed control has long been a challenge in agricultural production. Weed problems are mentioned in almost all production areas in the survey of commercial blueberry producers. Weed management is critical in young plantations when bushes are not fully established and most susceptible to any competition for resources including water and nutrition. A one-year study in Jelgava investigated the effectiveness of application of three types of mulch (peat, bark mulch, weed mat) as the weed control method in highbush blueberry (Vacccinium corymosum L.) plantation. The primary results showed that weed mat proved to be the most effective in suppressing weed growth.
