MPOB-Q-PKC - Malaysia's home grown energy and protein feed in enhancing competitive livestock industry by 2020

MPOB-Q-PKC is a Malaysian Palm Oil Board Quality Palm Kernel Cake an improved version of traditional palm kernel cake or palm kernel expeller (PKC/PKE). It was produced through close scientific supervision meant especially for feed grade and high quality PKC. The dirt and shell free kernels undergo processing system with no heat damage. These kernels are subjected to fine grinding. Later the palm kernel oil and palm kernel cake are separated by filter press. Residual cake was subjected to further extraction to reduce oil content of palm kernel cake to less than 7 %. The proximate composition of the MPOB-Q-PKC are 20.36% crude protein, 5,242 calorie per gram ofgross energy, 3.3% ash, 10.7% crude fiber, 6.9% ether extract and less than 3% moisture. Crude fiber, acid detergent fiber, and ash content of the MPOB-Q-PKC was reduced by 44%, 25%, and40% compared to traditional PKE, respectively. Crude protein value was increased by 25% over the traditional PKE. Improvement in feeding value of the MPOB-Q-PKC with reduction in crude fiber and ash content and increase in CP content and gross energy value enhanced its utilization in the total mixed ration of poultry and pig. It is technically feasible to use up to 20% MPOB-Q-PKCin poultry and pig total mixed ration. As such one million ton of home grown low protein and energy feed are available to complement Malaysian livestock feed industry. This also helps reduce foreign exchange loss by reducing import and dependency on imported ingredients.
