Wood areas appear a natural barrier of radioactive contaminating substances, accumulating radionuclides in forest massive after the Chernobyl accident. Wood territories of Mogilev and Gomel regions represent greatly radioactive contaminated areas with high grade of fire hazard. Natural fires on radioactive contaminated territories appear a source of serious danger due to ability of the burning wood to increase the ionizing radiation background and representing the source of secondary contamination of the neighboring lands. The main goal of the research is evaluation of the parameters of radioactive surface fires upon fire-based experiment carried out in the conditions of smoke chamber. The article presents the preliminary data about Cs137 content in radioactive combustion residues and forest fuel materials. A method for obtaining the data for estimation of the parameters of combustion of fuel materials during the forest fires is described. Actual data about Cs137 activity concentration in radioactive residues of combustion and fume aerosols is obtained. A comparative analysis of the parameters of combustion of forest fuel, based upon calculated data, is shown.
