The research of the varieties effects, plant spacing, and time for giving fertilizer N against diseases of rice were conducted during the wet season (WS) of 2008/2009 and dry season (OS) of 2009 in Sukamandi. The study aimed to evaluate some rice varieties effect, plant spacing and application timing of fertilizer N for several rice diseases. The experiments were conducted using Split-split plot design with 4 replications. Three varieties of rice, namely Rokan (hybrid), BP360 (PTB) and Ciherang (inbreds), were the main plot. Two plant spacing of 20 cm x 20 cm and 7 cm x 27 cm as subplot, and two patterns of fertilizer N was used as sub-sub plot includes N1: Recent SSNM recommendations for managing N. Urea fertilizer was given for three times at 10-14 DAT, the formation active tillering, and primordial. N2: the early use of fertilizer N, alternative addition of nitrogen fertilizer application in early plant growth and the amount of nitrogen fertilizer reduction during the late planting. The observation showed that the rice varieties, spacing and timing of N fertilizer significantly affected to several rice diseases such as bacterial leaf blight, orange leaf blight, and Cercospora leaf spot. The highest severity of bacterial leaf blight disease, orange leafblight and Cercospora leaf spot were found respectively in Rokan, BP360 and Ciherang. The disease severity of planting with a spacing of 20 cm x 20 cm was higher than the plants space of 27 cm x 27 cm. The fertilizing N, which dose was 60 kg N/Ha on the late phase could increase the severity level of bacterial leaf blight disease and press the severity level of the orange leaf blight.
