The paper reveals the response of plants against brown plant hopper, ragged stunt virus, grassy stunt virus, and genetic variability and heritability of resistance of these diseases. The experiment was conducted in March-June 2010 in the Indonesian Centre for Rice Research. A total of 110 lines/varieties were tested using randomized complete block design, with 2 replications. The control of pest and disease was carried out intensively by taking into account the principles of IPM. Especially after brown plant hopper infestation is high, insecticide was applied twice a week. During the cropping season of 2010 outbreak of BPH happened. Rice lines having no resistant to BPH have leaves discoloration with pronounced yellowing, stunted, and more than half plants were hopper burn. The resistance to grassy and ragged stunt virus has a wide genetic variability, so the chances of success to develop resistant varieties are relatively high. The character of resistance to ragged and grassy stunt virus has medium heritability, which indicates that the selection of resistant individuals in populations of plant breeding material can be performed on earlier generations. Lines IR 70213-10 IR-CPA 4-2-3-2, IR-RRRR-75 417 457-2, PSB RC 68, IR 82810-407, Swarna, Mahsuri, and IR 70213-10 IR-CPA 2-3-2-1 were identified tolerant to RGSV and RRSV in epiphytotic conditions of these disease.
