Isolation and identification of infectious bronchitis viruses in south Khorasan province Infectious bronchitis (IB) is one of the major viral respiratory diseases of chickens in Iran causing mortality mostly in a form of mixed infection and egg-production decline. The disease has been reported since many years ago in Iran which Massachusetts serotype was the only confirmed serotype. During last few years, in spit of intensive IB vaccination (H120 vaccine strain) many outbreaks of IB were reported through of Iran. Many IB viruses isolated from these outbreaks were shown to be classified as 4/91 serotype. The S1 subunit of the spick glycoprotein of IB virus comprises the major epitopes for inducing of neutralizing antibody. The partial S1 gene of five IB field isolates were amplified by RT-PCR and Nested PCR. Based on the results of Nested PCR two isolates of five isolates belone to 4/91 and three isolates to Massachusetts serotype. It is concluded that recent IB outbreaks in Iran is mostly associated with the emergence of 4/91 serotype in the field. Therefore, new vaccination program is needed to be applied to control the disease.
