Legumes are a rich source of protein and amino acids that are well adapted to most climatic areas of Europe and are widely used for feed and food. The 68th UN General Assembly declared 2016 as the International Year of Legumes. The aim of this research carried out at the State Stende Cereals Breeding Institute in 2014–2015 was to evaluate the varieties of field beans (Vicia faba), narrow leaf lupine (Lupinus angustifolius), peas (Pisum sativum) and soya (Glycine max) in the organic farming system. The yield of seeds, crude proteins content in seeds and crude proteins yields were measured in the trial. High yields of legumes and crude protein in organic farming system were provided by field beans, narrow leaf lupine and soya.
