Selenium is an essential oligomineral for animal and human health. In this study we determined the impact of organic selenium (Sel-Plex) and inorganic selenium (sodium selenite), in combination with K,I, Zn and alpha-tocopherol on some performance and hematological parameters as well as on the antioxidant status in broiler chickens. The researches were carried out on 120 broiler chickens (COB 500), at the age between 1 day (average initial body weight: 50 g) up to 42-50 days. The chickens were examined clinically and were divided into 4 similar groups, 30 chickens in each group: a control group and 3 experimental groups (Lex2;Lex3; Lex4). At the age of 42 days, the chickens from the control group reached an average body weight of 2280 plus minus 1,10g, while those from the experimental groups 2 and 3 2515 plus minus 1,15g (p less than 0,001) (Lex2) and 2505 plus minus 1,8g (p less than 0.001) (Lex3), and this is by 295g and 225 g more, respectively, than in the control group. Selenium preparations favoured an increase in erythocytes, haemoglobin, and red blood indices MCH, MCV, RDW. The activity of some enzymes, particularly catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, measured in blood plasma on days of life 2, 21, and 42, recorded significantly higher levels compared with the control group (p less than 0.001). These results show, that dietary supplementation with organic and inorganic selenium resulted in the increase of the antioxidant status and some performance indices.
