The variability of bio-morphological traits of barley plants (plant height, main ear length, last internode size, the number of grains per spike, numbers of productive tillers per plant and those of internodes) induced by stripe mosaic virus has been studied. BSMV influenced the coefficient of variation of the quantitative characters for the genotypes assessed as compared with the control in dependence on the genotype, generation index and traits. As a result, the VMDO infection has caused maximal variation in the first generation for the plant length and last internode size, preserving the major modifications in the third generation. Significant variation of the characters studied and increased coefficient of variation (Cv%) indicate that viral infection can be used as an inductor of genotypic diversity and variability.
