إنجليزي. The increase of anthropogenic load in large cities, interest in the use of ecological principles in planning of urban green spaces and factors of human perception of landscape preference were the reasons for choosing the topic of the PhD Thesis. The aim of the study was to carry out a scientific substantiation for the assessment of ecological and aesthetical quality of urban green spaces basing on the principles of sustainable landscape development and taking into consideration regional characteristics of the territories and specifics of the urban ecological environment. The research was divided into three main stages – expert interviews and questionnaires, landscape inventory and quality assessment in chosen green spaces and landscape preference questionnaire of city residents. The PhD Thesis consists of three chapters. The First Chapter includes research of theories and cognitions analysed from scientific literature, which are related to landscape aesthetics, ecology, research into the topic problems and use of existing research methods in the assessment of aesthetic and ecological quality of landscape. In the Second Chapter landscape structure of Liepaja, Jelgava, Rezekne and Valmiera cities was analysed and 36 green spaces were selected for the research. This chapter includes the results of landscape inventory of the existing situation of green spaces. The Third Chapter systematised the complex method for the assessment of the aesthetic and ecological quality of urban green spaces, which was developed by the author.

لاتفيا. Promocijas darba tēmas izvēli ietekmēja antropogēnās slodzes pieaugums lielajās pilsētās, interese par ekoloģisko principu izmantošanu apstādījumu teritoriju veidošanā un cilvēka uztveres īpatnības izvēloties patīkamāko ainavu. Promocijas darba mērķis bija izstrādāt zinātniski metodisko pamatojumu pilsētas apstādījumu teritoriju estētiskās un ekoloģiskās kvalitātes novērtēšanai un izmantošanai ilgtspējīgas attīstības plānošanā, ņemot vērā teritoriju reģionālās iezīmes un ekoloģiskās vides specifiku. Pētījums sadalīts trīs galvenajos posmos – ekspertu intervijas un aptaujas, ainavu inventarizācija un novērtēšana izvēlētajās apstādījumu teritorijās un iedzīvotāju aptauja par pievilcīgākās ainavas izvēli. Promocijas darba pirmajā nodaļā pētītas zinātniskajā literatūrā analizētās teorijas un atziņas, kas saistītas ar ainavas estētiku, ekoloģiju, temata problemātikas izziņu un esošo pētījuma metožu izmantošanu ainavas estētiskās un ekoloģiskās kvalitātes novērtēšanā. Otrajā nodaļā analizēta Liepājas, Jelgavas, Rēzeknes un Valmieras pilsētu ainaviskā struktūra un pētījumam izvēlētās 36 apstādījumu teritorijas. Nodaļas ietvaros aprakstīti apstādījumu teritoriju esošās situācijas inventarizācijas rezultāti. Trešajā nodaļā sistematizēta autores veidotā kompleksā metode pilsētas apstādījumu teritoriju estētiskās un ekoloģiskās kvalitātes novērtēšanai.
