Among various factors effecting the production of sunflower, planting density has prime importance and contained a significant effect on growth and achene yield. In present experiment, we investigated the effect of plant population per unit area of sunflower hybrid Hysun-33 under sub-tropical conditions of Faisalabad, Pakistan. The soil of experimental field was sandy clay loam having ECe 1.7 dS m-1, SAR 6.7 (mmoL-1)1/2 and pH 7.9. Two planting densities viz. 53333 plants per ha and 66666 plants per ha were tested at 75 and 60 cm row to row, and 20 and 25 cm plant to plant distances. The experiment was laid out in paired plot design (PPD) with ten replications. Results revealed that significantly higher achene yield 2318.02 kg per ha was recorded from the plot contained 66666 plants per ha compared to the lowest achene yield of 2280.87 kg per ha in the plots having planting density of 53333 plants per ha. Similar trends were observed in case of number of plants per plot. Whereas, both planting densities showed non-significant effect on stem diameter, head diameter and plant height. It was concluded that planting density of 66666 plants per ha was most suitable for sunflower hybrid Hysun-33 to obtain maximum yield under sub-tropical conditions of Faisalabad, Pakistan.
