This article is giving information on the importance of forage feeds in the nutrition of high yielding dairy cows. Presented results imply that the lower quality of lucerne hay cannot be compensated by the use of concentrate mixtures with higher crude protein (CP) content. Forages need to have high nutritive value if high milk yield is the production goal. High quality of forages could be obtained
