Effects of acute gamma irradiation on mutations of weeping fig (Ficus benjamina var. variegated)

Two variegated cultivar rooted cutting of Ficus benjamina were radiated with gamma rays at 0 , 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160 Gy. The results revealed that plant height and width significantly decreased with increasing radiation doses. Fifty percent lethal dose at 60 days after irradiation (LD50(60)) were estimated at 54 and 48 Gy for greenish- variegated and blotched leaf and greenish- variegated and motthled leaf variegated . Plants radiated excess than 80 Gy were died. Mutations were exhibited in leaf patterns . The patterns were changed to green leaf, grey blade green leaf and albino leaf.
