Syntaxa of Dryas tundra of West Sayan mountains

Classification and coenotic characterization of Dryas oxyodonta Jus. dominated tundra in West Sayan have been performed. Ecological, geographic, and phytocoenotic characteristics of four associations: Vaccinio uliginosi-Dryadetum oxyodontae ass. nov. hoc loco (Class Loiseleurio-Vaccinietea Eggler ex Schubert 1960), Flavocetrario cucullatae-Dryadetum oxyodontae ass. nov. hoc loco, Festuco sphagnicolae-Dryadetum oxyodontae ass. nov. hoc loco, Carici ledebouriae-Dryadetum oxyodontae ass. nov. hoc loco (Class Carici rupestris-Kobresietea bellardii Ohba 1974) have been represented. Studied communities are formed in the altitude range from 1640 to 1850 m above sea level. They have a strong topological and expositional confinement. The basis of their coenoflora is gekistoterms and psychrophytes. In terms of altitudinal zonation, alpine and arctic-alpine species; arealogically, Holarctic and North Asian element dominate.
