This study aims to evaluate effectiveness of locally available seed packaging materials to improve seed storage technology for peanut certified and farm-saved seeds. Evaluated treatment for certified seeds include P1- Pollard sacks without lining, P2-pollard sacks with transparent plastic lining, P3- pollard sacks with black polythylene, lining P4- Super grain Bags (SgB)and P5- jute sacks with transparent plastic lining while farm-saved seeds were stored in pollard sacks, super grain bags, steel drum, steel drum + SgB, steel drum + pollard sacks, plastic drum + SgB under 3, 6, 9 and 12 months storage observation duration. Regardless of variety seed size, the use of super grain bags and jute sacks with transparent plastic lining were found the most effective in maintaining acceptable germination of certified seeds at 88.0% and 79.0% after 9 and 12 months storage duration. Farm-saved seeds stored in super grain bag but further kept inside the plastic drum, gave the significantly highest germination rate of 84% after the 12 months of storage, followed by seeds packed in pollard sacks and SgB but kept further inside the steel drum with 82.0% as a result of air-tight condition of storage materials. These effective seed packaging materials can address needs for availability and accessibility of high quality seeds during regular planting season to attain high population density for increased yield and income.
