Influence of phytase and citric acid on growth performance of Labeo rohita fingerlings fed on canola meal based diet
2012
Iqbal, M.
This task is planned to study the effect of citric acid and phytase on growth performance of Labeo rohita fingerlings. The canola meal based diet was treated with three levels of citric acid (0%, 1.5 % and 3 %). Then each diet was further supplemented with two levels of phytase (1000, 2000 FTU per kg). Chromic oxide (1 %) in diet was mixed as inert marker. The fish was given respective test diet at the rate of 2% of wet weight. The growth parameters i.e. total length and weight gain of the fish will be measured fortnightly bases. Feces of fish were collected twice a day. Fecal matter was collected from the fecal collection tube of each tank by opening the valve 1 and valve 2 subsequently. Feces were collected carefully to avoid the breaking of fecal strings. The fecal matter of each treatment was placed in oven to dry the fecal material. The dried material was ground and stored for chemical analysis. The diet and feces samples were analyzed for the determination of apparent digestibility of nutrients. Water quality parameters like temperature, pH, DO, was noted throughout the experimental period. Growth improvements were evaluated after every fifteenth day by weighing fish of each tank. In conclusion the results obtained from present study shows that microbial phytase supplementation (1000 FTU per kg) and (3%) citric acid improved the growth performance, apparent dry matter digestibility, crude protein digestibility, crude fat digestibility and gross energy digestibility in Labeo rohita fingerlings. For making the availability of bounded nutrients to fish for better growth and for improvement of nutritive values of canola diet for Labeo rohita fingerlings, phytase level 1000 FTU per kg and 3% citric acid can be used.
