Monitoring the prey and predator population from leafy vegetables (Crcifera) in Faisalabad district

Vegetables are the integral part of our diet. These are rich in nutrients and enhance the protection of body by supporting the immune system. A large number of prey and predator arthropod species are present in cruciferous vegetables. Predators maintain the ecosystem ·of a cropland as they act as biological control agents. The generalist predator species are considerably best predators as they are polyphagous so they can be used as biological control agents for more than one pest species in a cropland. Pest problem is a largest limitation for the achievement of higher production in crops. Several different species of orders like Hemiptera, Homoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, and Araneae act as pests which affect the vegetables. All these orders include vast diversity of predatory and prey species. High level of infestation causes a large number of changes in vegetable plants. These pests damage the plant parts like roots, stems, leaves and fruit and cause ultimate death of plant. The present study aimed to investigate prey and predator species, their diversity and relative abundance and data analyzed statistically by using Shannon-Weiner Diversity Index (H').
