In this paper were given the results of energy analysis of two different types of machines in making haylage: line of making haylage with self-loaded trailer with knives SIP Pionir 17 in a trench silo and round bale press with fixed chamber Deutz - Fahr GP 2.50 and wrapping bales in stretch plastic foil. Tests were performed in production conditions on the family farm in Mokro (Republic of Srpska) in order to compare the energy efficiency of the tested lines. Following parameters are considered: fuel consumption per unit of area, energy consumption Eha (kWh/ha), and the coefficient of utilization of fuel (%). The main hypothesis in this paper is that the choice of ways, ie. lines of ensiling grass can affect the energy balance of the direct inputs of the production system. According to the obtained data, in total direct inputs the largest share of fuel consumption had the inputs in the process of compresing silo mass in a trench silo 30,03% in the line with self-loaded trailer, respectively 40,32% in the process of pressing bales. The smallest inputs are related to the process of raking and wrapping bales. Considering that the all processes in the production of silage are mechanized, it is understandable potentiation of proper and more economical choice in the ensiling of grass. This will reduce direct inputs expressed by the amount of fuel consumed for the operation of technical systems and energy consumption during the ensiling grasses.
