Marginalisation is a process in which individuals, groups or entire communities are separated from the rest of society, which usually means denial of rights normally available to other members of the society. Marginalisation is a ubiquitous social problem, and its elimination or at least reduction requires great investments, efforts and strategies at the local, national and global level. This paper provides an insight into the benefits and significance of online support groups, especially for marginalised individuals and groups. Also, the paper deals with potential problems arising in these groups, as well as the problems of access and use of modern information technologies. It can be concluded that online support groups can help people enhance the quality of their lives and easier social integration, while specific impacts depend on the type of support groups and members’ social needs.
