Thousand canker disease was for the first time recorded on the teritory of USA, from where it had spread all over the coutry, being noticed for the first time in Europe, in 2013 in Italy. In Europe it was noticed for the first time in Italy in 2013. The disease is caused by fungus Geosmithia morbida while the main vector is considered to be insect Pityophthorus juglandis. Having in mind the great importance of this disease for walnut production, observation of this disease in our country has started for presence of disease symptoms, phytopatogenic fungus and insect as vector. In this paper basic characteristics of insect and fungus who live in symbiosis and cause this economicaly important disease have been presented.
