The presence of oriental chestnut gall wasp, Dryocosmus kuriphilus, a quarantine pest of sweet chestnut in the Una-Sana Canton (northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina) is described in the paper for the first time. The pest belongs to the class Insecta, order Hymenoptera, family Cynipidae, Cynipidae subfamily, tribe Cynipin, originating from China. In Europe, it was first recorded in 2002 (Italy). The pest produces galls on the hosts of Castanea genus. The galls inhibit the development of sprouts, reducing photosynthetic area and chestnut fruiting. The paper describes the biology of the pest, attack symptoms, methods of spreading, harmful effects and protection measures. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, D. kuriphilus was first recorded in 2015, across 34 locations. It is considered a new, invasive type of pest on the Una-Sana Canton territory. Its expansion on all chestnut trees is expected in the forthcoming years. Biological control is possible with Torymus sinensis Kamijo parasitoid (Hymenoptera, Torymidae).
