Stone fruit production in Serbia is severely affected by many pathogens. Monilinia spp. cause one of the most important fungal diseases of stone fruit with a worldwide distribution in all major fruit-growing regions. Under favourable weather conditions, three species of Monilinia genus can completely devastate fruit production. Present knowledge on this causal agent widely distributed in our country, its morphological, ecological and epidemiological characteristics are systematized in the paper. Infection process, symptom development, as well as control possibilities through contemporary cultural, physical, biological and chemical control measures, are thoroughly discussed.
