MATHEMATIC PROCEDURES FOR DETERMINING THE CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND IN SWINE WASTEWATERS BY USING DRY MATTER AND ITS COMPONENTS | PROCEDIMIENTOS MATEMÁTICOS PARA DETERMINAR LA DEMANDA QUÍMICA DE OXIGENO EN LOS RESIDUALES PORCINOS UTILIZANDO MATERIA SECA Y SUS COMPONENTES

إنجليزي. The growing development of Cuban swine production sets new environmental challenges: finding an increase in the efficiency of the treatment of its wastewaters is one of them. Systematically characterizing porcine wastewaters with contamination parameters such as Chemical Oxygen Demand (DQO) guarantees the control required on the effectiveness of the wastewater treatment systems by applying simple and not expensive methods. Our goal was to estimate the chemical oxygen demand in swine wastewaters by using mathematical procedures on dry matter and its components. To achieve it, there were used the records of 300 determinations of chemical oxygen demand in swine wastewaters that also included the values for dry matter and ashes. In this study were used six variables: percent volatile solids, total volatile solids, percent ashes, total ashes, percent dry matter and chemical oxygen demand. There were reviewed the premises of the parametric statistics and it was determined the level of association of each of the variables with the Chemical Oxygen Demand by means of bivariate correlations and simple linear regressions. The results showed statistically significant differences in the correlations, with strong associations for the variables: total ashes, percent dry matter, total volatile solids and Chemical Oxygen Demand. The values obtained from the simple linear regressions showed statistically significant differences with high determination coefficients for the variables percent dry matter and total volatile solids as predictive variables for Chemical Oxygen Demand. They proved to be useful as excellent estimators for the Chemical Oxygen Demand, being the total volatile solids the most accurate one.

Con el objetivo de estimar la demanda química de oxígeno en los residuales porcinos mediante procedimientos matemáticos utilizando la materia seca y sus componentes se utilizaron los registros de 300 determinaciones de DQO en aguas residuales porcinas que contaban además con los valores de materia seca y cenizas. En el estudio se utilizaron 6 variables: sólidos volátiles en porcentaje, sólidos volátiles totales, cenizas en porcentaje, cenizas totales, materia seca en porcentaje y la DQO. Se comprobaron las premisas de la estadística paramétrica y se determinó el nivel de asociación de cada una de las variables con la variable DQO mediante correlaciones bivariadas y regresiones lineales simples. Los resultados mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en las correlaciones con fuertes asociaciones para las variables cenizas totales, porcentaje de materia seca, sólidos volátiles totales y demanda química de oxígeno. Los valores obtenidos de las regresiones lineales simples mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas con coeficientes de determinación elevados para las variables materia seca y sólidos volátiles totales como variables predictoras de la DQO, constituyendo buenos estimadores de la DQO, habiendo sido los sólidos volátiles totales la variable más exacta. Del conjunto de variables predictoras estudiadas, los mejores estimadores de la DQO fueron la materia seca y los sólidos volátiles totales, y este último presentó los valores más precisos
