The animal industries of Indonesia which used to import the main part of their raw materials have been hit hard by the monetary crisis. The aim of this appraisal was to draw up the availability and potential of use of by-products as total or partial substitution of raw materials imported for animal feed. The assessment of ressources has been analysed using two complementary approaches an economic approach and a technical approach. The main by-products concern are the following ones : Oil palm by-products, copra cake, cotton by-products, sugar-cane by-products, rice-by products, and other animal by-products. The analyse of requirements has been done for ruminants and monogastrics. for the country and also for the main islands. The fish requirements are not including in this survey. Several propositions of ration formulation at shadow price of raw materials are including in annexes. Some alternative solution exists to avoid maize-soya models. This short appraisal clearly shows the importance of palm kernel cake and oil clarification sludge. (Résumé d'auteur)
