Recently, due to global climate change, the relevance of assessing the role of forests in terms of carbon storage in forest ecosystems has increased. The increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere of the planet is one of the serious environmental problems. Reducing CO2 emissions today is seen as a serious tool for influencing global climate change. A significant role in solving this problem is assigned to forest plantations, which are characterized by various qualitative and quantitative indicators that must be taken into account when planning forest management activities and the use of forests. Improving the quality of forest management, maintaining sustainable forest management, implying efficient reforestation and afforestation, will help manage the regional carbon balance and mitigate the negative impact on climate change. Carbon stocks and rates of its deposition in forest ecosystems depend on forest productivity, their condition, species composition, age and commodity structure, which directly depend on the direction and intensity of forest use, the level of forestry production, the quality of protection and protection of forests. Environmental and forestry measures contributing to forest conservation contribute to reducing CO2 emissions from forest ecosystems and mitigating the effects of global warming. Measures to preserve forests include increasing the area of forest protected areas, fighting forest fires and other natural catastrophic phenomena that entail reducing the forest’s potential for carbon accumulation. In order to preserve and increase carbon stocks, it is necessary to maintain and improve the achieved level of forest conservation and protection, as well as to improve monitoring methods and technologies in the field of forestry and forest management.
