Samba - the new introduced Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium L.) cultivar in Georgia.

The article presents the results of the study of biological and agricultural properties of a promising sweet cherry cultivar of Canadian origin “Samba” introduced in Georgia. The research has been carried out in the collection orchard of the experimental station Jigaura of LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture (SRCA) in 2014-2017. The following agronomic and biological characteristics of the cultivar were studied: phenological phases of development, detailed pomological description of the tree, flower, fruits and other parts, also the biochemical analysis and pattern of yield and productivity. According to the study, the cultivar bears quality fruits and is noted for acceptable commercial properties - period of harvest – early or mid-June; average yield – 23.6 kg/tree. Based on the research, the cultivar is recommended for planting in the leading horticultural regions of Georgia –Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Tianeti, Kakheti, and Kvemo Kartli. Tab. 5, Fig. 9, Ref. 26.
