Winter rye (Secale cereale L.) plays an important role in crop rotation in organic farms in Latvia. In 2018 more than 2 thousand ha of rye were produced in organic farms. The research was set up in three regions: Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Latgale. All of the study sites differ from each other in terms of soil characteristics and climate conditions. The study evaluated the cultivation of the 'Kaupo' rye variety population and the 'Su Bendix' hybrid variety population of rye in different regions of Latvia. This was done by examining the crop yield and crop quality of these varieties in conditions of organic farming. The study results revealed that the ‘Kaupo’ variety had yields from 2.27 to 5.79 t haE–1, while the ‘Su Bendix’ variety had yields from 2.87 to 7.12 t haE–1 depending on the region where rye varieties were produced. The results for both varieties showed a positive correlation between the yield, starch content and bulk density, but a negative correlation between the yield and the crude protein content in grain.
