Comparison of oat varieties at Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics, Stende Research Centre 2018–2019 Zaiga Vīcupe, Lauma Pluša, Sanita Zute AREI Stendes pētniecības centrs [email protected] Abstract. The aim of research was to select varieties (based of the catalogue of varieties) with high yield and grain quality in different agro-climatic conditions in Latvia. Oat grains with their unique chemical composition are very valuable nutrition products. Therefore in recent years interest in oats has increased. An ecological comparison of 13 oat varieties (including a perspective oat breeding line developed in Estonia) was conducted in the time period from 2018 to 2019 at Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics, Stende Research Centre. Productivity and quality were measured for varieties: grain yield, thousand kernel weights, volume weight, crude protein content, crude fat and βglucan content. The results of research showed that the grain yield and quality characterizing indices are influenced by the meteorological conditions in the vegetation period. The comparison of 13 oat varieties showed that ‘Poseidon’, ‘Symphony’ and ‘Bison’ have comparatively high stability of yield and grain quality. In addition, two more varieties, ‘Gabby’ and ‘Laima’, are characterised as plastic genotypes under variable growing conditions.
