Uapaca kirkiana has been identified by diverse users as the most preferred indigenous fruit tree species for domestication in southern Africa. field experiments were established in 1996 at makoka in southern malawi and chipata in eastern Zambia involving 16 and 12 provenances, respectively, with the objective of evaluating the adaptation and performance of the provenances. The experiments were established in a randomized complete block design with 20 replications per provanance. Four trees were planted per plot at a spacing of 2m * 4m
