The paper investigates the suitability of the improved Pešterski peat for the production of peppers. Biological indicators of the plant show that good seedling of peppers have been achieved in all variants. The best characteristics were on the commercial substrate, and then on the Pešters peat with zeolite, especially variant 2 (NPK + 1 CaCO3 + 1% zeolite1), and the worst in variant without zeolite (NPK + 2% CaCO3). The basic chemical and water- physical properties of all substrates are favorable. Zeolite has a positive effect on water retention. The content of the total heavy metal in the tested substrate shows that the values are significantly lower than the maximum permissible concentration.
