البرتغالية. O cultivo do pinhão manso tem sido incentivado como uma alternativa para o fornecimento de matéria prima para fabricação de biodiesel. Objetivou-se neste trabalho observar o comportamento do pinhão manso em condições de sequeiro e irrigado no litoral cearense. O experimento foi conduzido na área experimental da Universidade Federal do Ceará, Fortaleza-CE. O plantio foi realizado com mudas produzidas na Fazenda Experimental do Vale do Curu, Pentecoste-CE. Os resultados evidenciam que o pinhão manso teve uma boa resposta nas duas áreas de avaliação e que em condições favoráveis a planta demonstra um melhor desempenho e bom crescimento. No cultivo irrigado as plantas de pinhão manso apresentaram um maior crescimento em altura e maior diâmetro do caule do que no cultivo de sequeiro.

إنجليزي. The cultivation of jatropha (<em>Jatropha curcas </em>L.) has been encouraged as an alternative for the supply of raw material for biodiesel manufacturing. The objective of this work was to observe the development of the <em>Jatropha curcas </em>L. in dry and irrigated conditions. The experiment as conducted at the Experimental field of the Federal University of Ceará, <em>Campus</em> do Pici, Fortaleza-CE. The planting was carried out with seedlings produced at the Curu Valley Experimental Farm, Pentecoste-CE. The results showed that the <em>jatropha curcas </em>L. had good response in the two areas of evaluation and that in favorable conditions the plant shows a better performance and good growth. In the irrigated crop, the plants of jatropha (<em>Jatropha curcas </em>L.) presented a greater growth in height and diameter of the stem than in the cultivation of dry land.
