Verticillium fungi are widely spread in nature. They affect both annual and perennial plants. They also cause internal infections. Verticillium fungi move inside a plant through tracheae and lead to tracheomycosis, plant wilt and decay. Frequently they cannot be observed visually. Verticillium wilt of citrus plants is caused by the following species of Verticillium fungi: Verticillium heterocladum and Verticillium tuberculariodes. Tracheomycosis of kiwi fruit (Actinidia deliciosa) is caused by Verticillium dahliae and Verticillium foexii. In hazelnut plants, Verticillium wilt is caused by V.dahliae, V. foexii, V. hepaticum, and V. lateritum.
