ملاحظة
Collection pertains to Torrey's work as botanist and professor. A collection of letters to and from individuals other than Torrey are also included. It is uncertain how he came to possess these letters. Original artwork, several manuscripts and a vasculum are aslo included in the collection. John Torrey (1796-1873) was one of the greatest figures in American botanical history. He led botanists in the adoption of the natural system of classification. His extensive herbarium formed the foundation of the New York Botanical Garden Herbarium. Appointed botanist for the Geological Survey of the State of New York in 1836, he published the first complete flora of the state in addition to preparing descriptions for the plants collected during surveys for the Pacific railroad routes and the Mexican boundary survey and many other botanical expeditions. - Content source: VXG
