This paper summarizes the findings or ergonomic evaluation on manual and mechanical skidding systems. The skidding system under investigation was operated by Perum Perhutani in a pine plantation in West-Java, Indonesia. Eight personnel with predetermined physical and psychological conditions were evaluated while doing their daily work. Heart rate was measured using the step test method to determine the physical workload of the manual and mechanical skidding activities. Workload for the human skidding system was found to be moderate to extremely heavy, while those of the geletrek and skyline skidding systems were classified as light to heavy and very light to light, respectively. These findings should be considere in determining the standard working time, wages, safety and health of skidding workers.
