The magnetic fibres filled up with magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were prepared via in situ synthesis method and subsequently were used to produce magnetic paper. Magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical co-precipatation in the pulp suspension and polyethylenimine (PEI) was added as a retention aid during synthesis to improve the paper strength and particle retention. The loading degree and magnetic properties of the papers prepared under different condition were evaluated by using the thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The results showed that the temperature and stirring rate played an improtant role in determining the loading degree and the magnetic properties of the paper. The higher the temperature during the synthesis the better the crystallinity of the magnetic particles participated.
