Narimah Md. Kairudin | Hanafi Ismail,
Three samples of foxtail millet seeds collected from three different places in Sabah and Sarawak and five populations from International Crop Research Institute of Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) were used to study the morpho-agronomic traits and to determine the variation among them. The experiment was conducted in the green house, using a completely randomized design. The morpho-agronomic traits were observed on individual plant basis. The analyses of variance of the observed data showed significance diffenrences among the populations for all of the traits, i.e. maturity, tiller number, plant height, grain yield, dry plant weight, total weight, 100 grain weight and harvest index. Further comparisons between popilation means showed that the local populations were not significantly different in most of the observed traits. However, the local populations differed significantly from the ICRISAT`s populations in most of the traits. The local populations had higher vegetative production and lower grain yield than the populations from ICRISAT.
