The aim of this investigation was to determine the effects of insecticideimidacloprid (IMD) on haematological and biochemical parameters, the activity ofenzymes of antioxidative defense system in rat blood, and to compare the effectson males and females. The results showed that IMD caused a significant increase inthe number of erythrocytes (RBC), platelet count (Plt), the level of total proteins,glucose and cholesterol, as well as the activities of AST, ALT and LDH. In addition,the activity of antioxidant enzymes was increased. Therefore, IMD, despiteoriginally characterized as safe for mammals and other vertebrates, however,exhibits some degree of toxicity to them.
