The Department of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 2000 at the Faculty of Agriculture,University of Novi Sad. It is organized as a single unit and integrates teaching, animal healthcare, scientific research, laboratory analysis and veterinary staff training. Departmentsrepresent the basic educational-scientific and professional unit of the Faculty. This paperdescribes the curricula for integrated, specialist and doctoral studies in veterinary medicine.The purpose, goals and outcomes of the undergraduate study are then defined and theteaching methods and teaching capacities for the realization of teaching are described,especially in the area of acquiring specific knowledge and skills. The paper emphasizes the fact that veterinary medicine is a regulated profession, which means that subjects, theircontents and goals and learning outcomes are strictly regulated by national and internationalquality standards. In the past two decades, the Department of Veterinary Medicine at theFaculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad, has developed a path that aims to place thestudent in the center of teaching and competences in the center of the veterinary medicinecurriculum.
