Rural areas occupy a special position as areas ofexceptional value, ecological oases, traditionalculture centres, and ethno-cultural heritagevariety in rural tourism of Serbia. The offer ofrural tourism in Serbia is weak, at its earliestphase and unevenly distributed. The paperreviews the relevant literature and analysesformer knowledge as well as current situationwith regard to rural tourism and quality ofaccommodation in the Republic of Serbia. Thepaper renders comparative analysis betweenrural areas of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.Methodological part includes instruments,procedure and sample of the research, with themain hypotheses of the paper. Within the resultsand the discussion parts the hypothesis, wereconfirmed, partially confirmed or discarded, bymeans of statistical calculations and othermethods. Finally the conclusion part bringsforth the scientific and practical contribution oftheoretical and fieldwork and the restrictions ofthe research.
